What do we mean by the soul?
In common parlance, the soul is everything within us that thinks, feels, and is conscious. Some writings also distinguish between body, mind, and soul. In most cases, the soul is the feeling inner self and the mind is the perceiving, more analytical principle. Psychology usually uses the term psyche (Greek for soul) to distinguish itself from theology. Here, however, we consider the mind, psyche, and intellect to be part of the human soul and thus use a comprehensive term for the soul. We refer to everything within us that is not material or physical as the soul. This soul also exists independently of the body. Although both have a strong influence on each other, the soul can fundamentally survive the body. Conversely, the body can also maintain basic physical functions without a soul.
